Tri-Clamp and Tri-Clover are identical ways to describe a type of connection. “Tri-Clover” is simply a branded name while "Tri-Clamp" is the more technical term; they can be used interchangeably. A Tri-Clamp connection consists of a flat flange face with bevels for a snug and secure fit with a gasket.
304 stainless steel contains 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel while 316 stainless steel contains 16% Chromium, 10% Nickel, and 2% Molybdenum. The Molybdenum increases the corrosion resistance of stainless steel making the 316 alloy a preferred choice for applications with a much higher exposure to corrosive materials. 304 Stainless Steel is more common due to it’s lower cost and good corrosion resistance.
Both EPDM and Silicone are excellent and effective gasket materials. Silicone is best used in extreme operating temperatures, from -58°F up to 446°F. Its elasticity and compressibility make it an ideal choice for a wide variety of applications. Due to the ‘softness’ of the material it may be more prone to rips and tears. EPDM has a lower effective temperature range, from -40°F up to 266°F, but it is a more robust material. It is the optimal choice when dealing with highly abrasive substances or in applications that would cause greater wear and tear. EPDM’s ability to withstand damage will drastically decrease in temperatures outside of its operating range where it can melt or deform.
